I know it's a cliche, but one of my favorite parts of the writing process—feature writing in particular, but really any kind of writing—is sitting down with people to learn their stories. In this case, I sat down with three different filmmaking pairs to learn what motivated them and why they chose their particular subjects. I also learned about biofuel, high-school student success, and the endangered watercress darter—and why they're all very, very important subjects.
