Is it weird that I'm kind of an opera geek? We'll pretend it isn't. Gilbert and Sullivan happen to be one of my favorite composing pairs, so I was more than happy to take on the assignment of covering the new director of UAB Opera and the first show under her supervision. I was amazed at the quality of the production; it's just not what you expect from college students. I was dismayed to find myself humming "I Am a Pirate King" constantly the entire time I was working on the piece and for two weeks afterward.
